SMEDG would like to acknowledge your effort by warmly inviting you to our second biennial SMEDG Awards Dinner.
The evening will include presentations of several achievement awards to formally recognise and celebrate those who have given meritorious service to the Sydney mineral exploration community.

Guest speaker, Russell Meares "Legends of Economic Geology - A Journey in the Footsteps of Giants"
As geologists and explorers, we have all been influenced and inspired by the sheer brilliance, incredible achievements, and untiring work ethic of the many ground-breaking pioneers who have gone before us and who have paved the way for us all to be better geologists.
Against the backdrop of a road trip through some of the most stunning geology in America, in this fireside chat Russell will pay tribute to six past and current “Legends of Economic Geology”. He will dig into the lives of these rock stars, uncovering what drove them and the challenges each one had to overcome - revealing the real people behind their iconic names. His very personal selections will no doubt be controversial!

So here are some clues as to who the chosen six might be:

  1. (1)Three didn’t have degrees in geology;
  2. (2)Two started their careers as renegade mining engineers (shock, horror!);
  3. (3)Two had minerals named after them; and (4) one was the Keynote Speaker at a SMEDG Symposium.
Who would be on your list of Legends ?
